HOLIDAY IN A JAR

Holiday Season hajar2s officially started! You will be visiting friends and family and if you don’t want to show up empty handed, we have a great DIY gift idea for you! Cookie Mix in a Jar! We like the below recipe as the ingredients look really pretty when stacked in the jar 🙂 Just get a 1 liter (1 quart) jar, fill it up with the ingredients below, and make it pretty with a nice ribbon 🙂 We call it Holiday in a Jar!

HOLIDAY IN A JAR

  1. Layer the ingredients in a 1 quart or 1 liter jar, in the order listed.
  2. Attach a tag with the following instructions:
    • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
    • In a large bowl, cream together 1/2 cup butter (softened), brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth. Beat in 1 egg and 1 tea spoon of vanilla. Combine the flour and baking soda; stir into the sugar mixture. Mix in the white chocolate chips, cranberries, and pecans. Drop by spoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets.
    • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. For best results, take them out while they are still doughy. Allow cookies to cool for 1 minute on the cookie sheets before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

It’s Cranberry Season!

cranberry1We came across a huge cranberry bog when we were walking by Rockefeller Center couple days ago, and we thought “why not writing about cranberries this week?”.

If you live in New York or planning a visit to New York, make sure you stop by this temporary bog set up by Ocean Spray next year as it was only there for two days this year. This year was the 11th time Ocean Spray had this set up in the Big Apple !! Every year people visit their bog and learn about the taste, health and heritage of the cranberry from third-, fourth- and sixth-generation Ocean Spray® growers. This year, Ocean Spray was celebrating its 85th anniversary by reflecting on its rich history, and celebrating newly emerging trends!

From its unique taste to its rich heritage and long history of health benefits, the cranberry holds lots of secrets worth sharing. As far as healthy foods go, cranberries are at the top of the list due to their high nutrient and antioxidant content and are often referred to as a “super food.” Not to mention, half a cup of cranberries contains only 25 calories!

The possible health benefits of consuming cranberries include lowered risk of urinary tract infections, prevention of certain types of cancer, improved immune function, decreased blood pressure and more.

So enjoy your cranberry sauce this Thanksgiving and think about all the benefits you are getting. Maybe this may make you feel better about yourselves after eating that big meal 🙂
